Interference in the country’s affairs and an annoying Turkish fear of Israel
The report of Dr. Nassim Salah Zaki, the Egyptian ambassador for world peace
Israel declared its fear of Turkey
Turkey worked to activate the 2018 security agreement that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan signed with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas – similar to Turkey’s intervention in the Libyan conflict. This move, which was taken quietly, was approved by the National Security Council in Ankara last Wednesday 9 June and published in the Turkish Official Gazette the next day.
The agreement stipulates the Turkish Gendarmerie and Coast Guard Academy to train Palestinian security forces: “Short and long-term projects will be implemented to increase the capabilities of Palestinian law enforcement forces by providing training, advisory and technical assistance.” A clause on intelligence sharing between Turkey and the Palestinian Authority was also included. The agreement goes on to include another highly sensitive issue: it ties the Palestinians to the internationally condemned Turkey-Libya agreement that aims to illegally divide the waters of the eastern Mediterranean between the two signatories. This deal was designed as a wrestling by Ankara and Tripoli of full control of those waters and their energy stocks. He made the Palestinians partners in this “agreement”, which aims to support their claims to coastal waters from the Gaza Strip and the north, with the aim of excluding Israel from offshore gas and oil projects.
Ankara’s agreement with Tripoli provided military support to the beleaguered Government of National Unity in the form of advisers, artillery, ammunition, armed drones, and surveillance aircraft. This alliance is still active. On Saturday, June 12, Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar and Chief of Staff Lieutenant-General Mehmet Ali Haddad paid a visit to Tripoli. Our sources say that the two-pronged Turkish incursion into the Palestinian arena as well as Libya targets Israel and Egypt as well, and calls for a quick Israeli response.
