إحياء روح الموصل

الم وصل هي إحدى أقدم المدن في العالم، وكانت لآلاف السنين نقطة عبور استراتيجية وجسراً يصل الشمال بالجنوب والشرق بالغرب، ونظراً إلى موقعها الاستراتيجي، أصبحت الموصل مقراً لعدد كبير من الأشخاص المنحدرين من خلفيات وإثنيات وأديان ومعتقدات دينية متنوعة، غير أن هذا الموقع الفريد جعلها هدفاً لتنظيم “داعش”، حيث سيطر التنظيم عليها وجعل منها مقراً لخلافته.

وأمضت الموصل ثلاثة أعوام عصيبة (2014-2017) تحت نير التنظيم، قبل أن تتحرر من قيود التطرف العنيف. ودارت خلال هذه السنوات الثلاث عدة معارك خلفت وراءها مدينة مدمرة، حيث تحوّلت مواقعها التراثية إلى ركام من الأنقاض، وتعرّضت معالمها الدينية وآثارها الثقافية إلى التخريب، وتشرّد الآلاف من سكانها محمّلين بآثار الحروب ومحتاجين إلى العديد من المساعدات الإنسانية.

وكانت المديرة العامة لليونسكو، أودري أزولاي، قد أطلقت المبادرة الرائدة “إحياء روح الموصل” لتكون بمثابة مشاركة المنظمة في إنعاش إحدى المدن العراقية العريقة. ولا ينحصر إحياء الموصل في إعادة بناء المواقع التراثية وحسب، بل يتعداه إلى تمكين السكان بوصفهم أطرافاً فاعلة في التغيير، تشارك في عملية إعادة إعمار المدينة من خلال الثقافة والتعليم. وقد وُلدت المبادرة الرائدة “إحياء روح الموصل” من رحم رسالة قوية موجهة إلى العراق وإلى العالم أجمع، ومفعمة بالأمل والصمود، رسالةٌ مفادها أن المجتمع الشامل للجميع والمتلاحم والمنصف هو المستقبل الذي يستحقه العراقيون

Reviving the spirit of Mosul

Al-Mosul is one of the oldest cities in the world, and for thousands of years it was a strategic crossing point and a bridge linking north to south and east to west. Due to its strategic location, Mosul has become the seat of a large number of people from diverse backgrounds, ethnicities, religions and religious beliefs, but this unique location made it a target to ISIS, where the organization took control of it and made it the headquarters of its caliphate.

Mosul spent three difficult years (2014-2017) under the yoke of ISIS, before it was liberated from the shackles of violent extremism. During these three years, several battles took place, leaving behind a devastated city, where its heritage sites were reduced to rubble, its religious monuments and cultural monuments were vandalized, and thousands of its residents were displaced, bearing the effects of wars and in need of many humanitarian aids.

The Director-General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay, launched the pioneering initiative “Revive the Spirit of Mosul” as the organization’s participation in the revitalization of one of Iraq’s ancient cities. The revival of Mosul is not limited to the rebuilding of heritage sites, but also to empowering the population as actors of change, participating in the reconstruction of the city through culture and education. The pioneering initiative “Revive the Spirit of Mosul” was born out of a strong message addressed to Iraq and to the whole world, full of hope and steadfastness, a message that an inclusive, cohesive and equitable society is the future that Iraqis deserve.
