يأتي «اليوم العالمي للبحارة» كل عام في الخامس والعشرين من حزيران للتذكير بفئة مهمة وشريحة واسعة من العمالة النشطة في عالمنا، وهذه الفئة تواجه تحديات ومخاطر جمة لا سيما أثناء الكوارث والتحديات الطبيعية الكبرى التي تجبرهم عن الانقطاع عن أسرهم وأوطانهم لفترات طويلة.
وفقا لتقارير المنظمة البحرية الدولية، فإن 90% من التجارة الدولية يتم نقلها بحرا عن طريق السفن، والبحارة العاملون على متن هذه السفن ليسوا فقط مسؤولين عن تشغيل السفن ولكنهم مسؤولون أيضًا عن نقل وتسليم البضائع بشكل آمن.
مبادرة عالمية
وكان بدء الاحتفال بيوم البحارة للمرة الأولى في عام 2010 حين قررت المنظمة البحرية الدولية إطلاق مبادرة عالمية للاحتفال بالبحارة في شتى أنحاء العالم، وتحديدا يوم 25 يونيو باعتباره اليوم الدولي للبحارة كوسيلة للاعتراف بأن كل ما نستخدمه في حياتنا اليومية قد تأثر بشكل مباشر أو غير مباشر بالنقل البحري. وفي عام 2011 اعتمدت الجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة الاحتفال رسميا باليوم الدولي للبحارة تقديرًا للمساهمة الكبيرة التي يقدمها أكثر من 1.5 مليون بحار حول العالم.
وأشار «كيتاك ليم « الأمين العام للمنظمة البحرية الدولية في رسالته بهذه المناسبة، إلى أن العمل الفريد والأساسي للبحارة هو تماما مثل العمال الرئيسيين الآخرين، حيث يقف البحارة على خط المواجهة في هذه المعركة العالمية. وأضاف ليم، إنهم يستحقون شكرنا. لكنهم يحتاجون أيضًا – ويستحقون – عملا إنسانيًا سريعًا وحاسمًا من الحكومات في كل مكان، ليس فقط خلال الوباء، ولكن في جميع الأوقات. وأشاد ليم، بالبحارة معترفا بتضحياتهم والقضايا التي يواجهونها. فالعديد من البحارة كانوا بعيدين عن منازلهم منذ شهور وهم غير متأكدين متى يمكنهم العودة إلى ديارهم بسبب قيود السفر. ودعا ليم إلى رفع مستوى الوعي بالعمل الذي أنجزه البحارة لمواجهة الوباء وشكرهم على مساهمتهم، وعلى معاملة البحارة بالاحترام والكرامة التي يستحقونها حتى يتمكنوا من الاستمرار في تقديم خدماتهم الحيوية لمواصلة التجارة العالمية.. فالجميع مدعوون للاعتراف بأن قدرة البحارة على تسليم السلع الحيوية أمر أساسي للاستجابة لهذا الوباء والتغلب عليه في نهاية المطاف…..

International Day of the Seafarers

The “World Seafarers Day” comes every year on the twenty-fifth of June to remind an important group and a wide segment of active labor in our world, and this category faces many challenges and risks, especially during disasters and major natural challenges that force them to leave their families and homelands for long periods.
According to IMO reports, 90% of international trade is transported by sea by ships, and seafarers working on these ships are not only responsible for operating the ships but are also responsible for the safe transportation and delivery of goods.

The start of the celebration of Seafarers’ Day was for the first time in 2010 when the International Maritime Organization decided to launch a global initiative to celebrate seafarers around the world, specifically on June 25 as the International Day of Seafarers as a way to recognize that everything we use in our daily lives has been directly or indirectly affected by transport Maritime. In 2011 the United Nations General Assembly officially adopted the observance of the International Day of Seafarers in recognition of the significant contribution made by more than 1.5 million seafarers around the world.
In his message on this occasion, Kitak Lim, Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization, noted that the unique and essential work of seafarers is just like other key workers, as seafarers are on the front line in this global battle. They deserve our thanks, Lim added. But they also need – and deserve – quick and decisive humanitarian action from governments everywhere, not just during the pandemic, but at all times. Lim paid tribute to the sailors, acknowledging their sacrifices and the issues they face. Many seafarers have been away from their homes for months and are unsure when they can return home due to travel restrictions. Lim called for raising awareness of the work that seafarers have done in response to the pandemic and thanking them for their contribution, and for treating seafarers with the respect and dignity they deserve so that they can continue to provide their vital services to continue global trade..
